Council rejected a controversial proposal to build rental housing above an indoor pickleball court in Carnarvon Park after some residents argued against the precedent of putting housing anywhere on public parkland. District staff are now working on detailed options and cost estimates for a new field house, meeting space, storage and change rooms. The suspect was caught in broad daylight in the 1000-block of Monterey Avenue, near McNeill Avenue and arrested and released on conditions ahead of an Oct. 30 court date. The study was published in the Journal of Human Evolution and found that the timing of puberty in Pleistocene teens lines up as being similar to modern day teenagers. | IN OTHER NEWS | | Another abandoned sailboat at Gonzales Beach | Locals have been discussing another abandoned, derelict boat in the waters of Oak Bay, and it sparked a discussion about who is responsible for them. Some locals say they are convinced they know who the culprit was. | They say that they believe it belongs to “Pirate Ryan” who was the subject of an April 2024 report in the Capital Daily. The report said that he’s been known to have run several boats aground and subsequently living on them, and is even called a legend. | Could he be behind the latest discovery? | |
