| | COMMUNITY NEWS | π¨ Teen with learnerβs permit caught driving 121 km/h in a 50 zone in Oak Bay. The 16-year-old was caught on Foul Bay at 1:45 in the morning last Friday. The teen received more than $800 in fines for speeding, having too many passengers, operating a motor vehicle with cannabis in it, and failing to display his learnerβs designation. [Oak Bay Police] | π Feedback wanted on new RapidBus linking Uptown to UVic. BC Transit and the Victoria Regional Transit Commission plan to add Route 96 Blink, a RapidBus line which would move riders along McKenzie βin the blink of an eye.β Public sessions were held this week to gather feedback on the route. Thereβs also an online survey open until July 2. [BC Transit] | π Fake Taylor Swift tickets sold in Oak Bay. Two people each paid around $5K for tickets that turned out to be fake. In each case, the victim thought Facebook friends were selling them the tickets, which was actually a hacker who posed as actual friends. The case is being investigated. Several also noted that theyβve had large plants stolen from their own properties, with little hope of a resolution. | There will be a horticultural reward offered for any information leading to the recovery of these plants or for any helpful leads. | |

| Oak Bay Special Council meeting seen as setback to more housing | Oak Bay locals were expressing disappointment about the recent Oak Bay Special Council meeting to discuss the changes for infill housing and provincial mandate that the proposal to reduce the two off-street parking spots to one has been defeated by the mayor and several councillors. | Several others were concerned about the implications this will have on creating more housing options in the community, as well as better bus services and cycling infrastructure. The original poster said βI donβt understand how Oak Bay cannot move forward, we are trying to renovate our basement to a LEGAL suite but the amount of red tape is ridiculous.β Several commenters echoed the sentiment, with one saying itβs β[a]bsolutely nutty that car parking is a requirement of offering a rental unit.
