Royal Victoria Yacht Club

Members' yacht club on Ripon Road with a clubhouse and marina, racing, cruising, junior sailing programs and member dining.

Known for running the Swiftsure race since 1930

Our take

In 1892 American boats took the top four places at Victoria's Queen's Birthday regatta. That June, 46 local sailors formed a club. Its first clubhouse, on the Inner Harbour, sank three times. The Cadboro Bay clubhouse opened in 1913, and a wheel from the old cruiser HMCS Rainbow hangs over the fireplace. In the Depression, members built floats from salvaged logs and worked off their dues with chores.
