Good morning, Oak Bay. An Oak Bay ghost with a thing for biscuits. In 1949, the Daily Colonist reported a biscuit barrel that swung for hours at Tod House, and a cellar door that wouldn’t stay shut. Our Halloween guide has the original ghost story, tonight’s candy route, Lincoln Road’s thank-you-cookie house and a dance floor for the grown-ups. The Oak Bay Local team |

Worth knowing first Newport neighbours: water, showers and a closed road Newport Avenue is closed between Windsor and Transit roads after a water-main break. The District's Friday, 4:43 p.m. update asks people to stay clear of repair sites on Newport and Goodwin over the weekend. For affected Newport residences on the emergency connection, the water is potable but pressure is low. The District says no showers, dishwashers or laundry. Free showers are available at Oak Bay Rec, 1975 Bee Street, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Henderson Rec, 2291 Cedar Hill Cross Road, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Give reception your address. Affected residents can collect water at the Fire Hall, 1703 Monterey Avenue. Unable to pick it up? Call 250-592-9121 and leave a message if needed. Check the District's update before travelling; service arrangements can change. Sources · District of Oak Bay |
