Oak Bay locals speculate on plans for derelict former restaurant |
An Oak Bay local asked the community what might be in store for an old derelict former restaurant, which was formerly called Ianβs, near the corner of Fort and Richmond. Over 45 comments reported speculation ranging from in-fighting among heirs to several reports that a local physicianβs group bought it and had subsequent disagreements. One commenter cautioned that: "That 'derelict' restaurant has a real history and was much loved 50+ years ago.β Others posted their hopes that it could one day be re-developed to include a bakery or retail that can serve the community. |

Locals divided on portable sauna, previously parked at Willows |
Oak Bay locals were divided on the issue of a portable sauna, that had previously set up shop at Willows Beach. Bylaw officers sent the business owners elsewhere, while some were asking why it's not allowed in this community. During the pandemic, there were exceptions that could have opened the door to this type of business operating legally, though current guidelines prohibit this kind of use in Oak Bay. |
While many supporters in the thread said they would like to see it stay, others expressed concern that it would limit public access to Willows Beach, due to it reportedly taking up to three public parking spaces along Dallas Road. What do you think? |

Oak Bay kids hustle to make annual Valentine's cards for local seniors |
Looking for a rainy day activity to do with the kids? Oak Bay community member Maggie May is gathering artwork to spread joy to local seniors. Last year, cards were distributed to Marion Village, Elgin House, and the Kiwanis House. Local teachers are participating and looking for more participants this year. The goal of the program is to have fun and spread the love. Cards should be ready by Feb. 10, and a pickup location will be determined soon. |
