Locals discuss what happened to Willows time capsule buried in the '80's |
Oak Bay locals were taking a trip down memory lane, and trying to dig up memories of what happened to a time capsule that was buried around 1989 at Willows school. A few people recalled that preparing the capsule itself was a distinct memory, but the specifics were a bit fuzzy. Another local reached out to a former teacher, who remembered that it was buried behind the library. Others remembered doing a similar time capsule at Margaret Jenkins Elementary school. Does anyone else remember anything more about the time capsule? |

Locals petition to keep saunas at Willows Beach |
A group of Oak Bay locals have organized a petition in order to keep the saunas running at Willows Beach. The owners of Wildwood Saunas had been operating in the public space in front of Willows Beach, but ceased operations after realizing that they are prohibited due to local bylaws, which are currently being enforced by the District of Oak Bay. Some locals have been calling for them to be given a permit and brought back, while others say they have no place at the public beach. What do you think? Do they have a place in the community? |

Oak Bay figurines pay homage to Dickens characters |
An Oak Bay local asked the group if anyone knew about the history of the characters on top of the Village liquor store. Locals had some surprising knowledge about the sculpted figurines, which locals say were imported from England and paid homage to the characters from Oliver Twist. Others remembered them being brightly coloured when they were installed by a developer around 1986. The figurines used to move and make sounds, and various attempts have been made to preserve them over the years. |
