Family doctor reportedly charging patients thousands in fees |
An Oak Bay local reached out to the group, wondering whether an extra fee from their doctor was allowed under the current health care system. The community member said their doctor recently introduced a fee of $4,800 for each family member per year, which got a lot of people talking. There were around 150 comments at last count, many of which were discussing recent changes in BC under the new payment model for family doctors. While many agreed changes were needed under the current healthcare system, others were confused as to whether their doctor will send a huge bill. Some suggested the original poster should call the College of Family Physicians and Surgeons of BC in order to determine whether they are currently billing MSP, which would prohibit additional billing. Others said the charges would be allowed, provided the family doctor is not also billing MSP. |
