There is a video showing perpetrators committing the acts. The owners are hoping someone will come forward in order to identify the individuals who made this unfortunate decision. After finding two dead rats in the Falkland/Pentland/Victoria Avenue areas, there are suspicions that the poison is being used for the purposes of controlling rats. Oak Bay joined Saanich in 2020 in order to ban the use of anticoagulant rat poisons after two dead owls were found and concerns were raised about the owl populations. This puts owls and any other predator at risk, including dogs and other pets. Looking for ways to control rats? | | | Water advisories at Willows | Oak Bay locals were chatting about recent water tests, which have indicated high levels of bacteria in the water at Willows Beach. The levels pose a health risk and the area is unsafe for swimming and other contact with the water. Many locals were speculating as to what may have caused the bacteria to spike. Some suspect the Canada geese could be the cause, while others say tanker cruise ships could be the culprits. | Another commenter said that stormwater, sewage spills and overflow is often the cause of sending microbe-containing fecal matter into rivers, lakes, and storm drains which eventually flow into the ocean. Signs will be posted at the beach to notify visitors. | | |
