Oak Bay Tennis Club

Private members' tennis club on Bowker Avenue with a clubhouse, four hard courts and a practice wall, plus junior programs.

Known for a club tournament held every year since 1914, apart from the two world wars

Our take

B.C. Electric Railway employees started this as the company tennis club in 1911. When the company thought about closing it in the late 1950s, the members bought it themselves for $9,000 cash, signed on the last day of 1964. In 1965 they shifted two courts to squeeze in a fourth, singles-only court. It went into the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame in 2011, its centennial year.
