| PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT | Sooke wildfire smoke makes its way to Oak Bay | Some locals reported that they detected an βacrid chemical smokeβ smell in different areas near Oak Bay this week. Locals from Saanichton Bay to the yacht club to Royal Bay reported smelling smoke, which is believed to have originated west of Sooke, along Tugwell Creek. The fire was originally classified as out of control, however its current status is reported as βheldβ. Have you noticed smoke in this area? | |

| | | An injured baby deer | Several locals have noticed an injured fawn wandering around Oak Bay this week with its mother, and many wondered if there was something they could do to help the animal. Some commenters have already called Wild Arc, whose mission is to βprovide care to injured, sick, orphaned and distressed wildlife based on rehabilitation standards and the animalβs natural historyβ. | They were informed by the organization that, as long as the fawn is with its mother and moving around on its own, it was best to leave it alone and let nature take its course. Others commenters mentioned that deer are incredibly resilient animals, and that the fawn may heal in time. Several others remain concerned about the fawn and are keeping a watchful eye, but remain hopeful it will recover.
