Some described the patio as looking like a horse corral, which some councillors said βdoesnβt suit Oak Bayβs character.β Mayor Kevin Murdoch commented that the patio, which is made of cedar and takes on a natural grey hue over time, was βlooking a little rough.β The coffee shop owners argued council was βtrying to dictateβ Oak Bayβs aesthetic and celebrated the win by inviting the public to come paint the patio and βshow them what Oak Bay looks like.β Nearly 50 people came out to paint the patio this past Sunday, which is now covered with local art. [Sooke News Mirror] | π Windsor Park Playground will be upgraded and Oak Bay wants feedback. The district is seeking feedback on the three park equipment design options through a survey which is open until July 30, and is hoping that children will participate with their parents, guardians and caregivers to select the winning design. The building was brought to the community via a large trailer operated by teams that routinely move oilfield equipment. There is a new plan for charges to be added onto new construction permits to pay for infrastructure improvements, which are linked to provincial densification targets. Victoria Drains will be conducting Cured-in-Place-Pipe Lining (CIPP) for sanitary sewers on Runnymede Place on behalf of the District of Oak Bay. Another local had a similar experience, and said they learned that covering the mirror with a bag helped deter what they dubbed βrage pooping robinsβ who had been nesting in a nearby tree. The robins repeatedly saw their reflections in the mirror, got angry, and poopedβover and over again until they could no longer see themselves. | |

| | Healthy debates on Oak Bay local | Last week, Oak Bay Local conducted a survey to gauge whether the community was interested in allowing controversial posts to remain on the forum. The results showed that slightly more voters preferred to not allow posts that balloon into controversy to remain on the forum, while 46% said yesβthat they like to engage in healthy debate with their neighbours. | While the vast majority of those who wrote in said that they prefer to keep the forum about local topics, others said that they would like to have a forum with vetted users in the community if there is a local angle. Some said that these forums can be helpful in understanding a variety of issues that draw a wide range of views.
