The Agenda for the Tuesday, April 11 council meeting is available for review, and includes recommendations for the approval of the Royal Victoria Yacht Club's liquor licence for their outdoor patio as well. Housing and livability have been listed as top priorities for 2022-2026, however there was no mention of these issues in the agenda. |

Street patio concerns |
While some Oak Bay locals were pleased to learn that patio approvals have been extended by Oak Bay council, others expressed concerns about whether someone could build a structure that wouldn't suit the neighbourhood. The original poster suggested that there should be guidelines as to acceptable styling for the structures in order for them to appear more cohesive and function as intended. There was also a shoutout to those who have already built patios, and praised their addition to the neighbourhood. The district did conduct a public consultation in order to suit the needs of the community. Do you feel the patios built in Oak Bay are a nice addition to the community? |

Double-sided parking on Transit Road |
An Oak Bay local started a discussion on the problems they've had concerning the double-sided parking along Transit Road, which joins at the end of Beach Drive. Some have noticed a lot of people walking in the middle of the road, which has caused some safety concerns in the community. The post ignited a debate regarding the rights of pedestrians, while the original poster argued that they just wanted people to be safe. Some pedestrians have said that they like the traffic slowing effect this has in the area, though some drivers find it irritating. Local photographers have been submitting their work in a weekly photo challenge, which was started by Oak Bay photographer Mary MacArthur. Every Monday, Mary announces a new theme for the challenge. Previous themes have included #seabirds and #wildernesspaths. The photo above was submitted by photographer Rick Anthony and the challenge is open to both new and seasoned photographers, with the goal of encouraging budding photographers to give it a try.
