On the boulevard, not in the road
Oak Bay collects leaves according to demand during October and November. From December 7, crews make one pass along each street.
Keep the pile on the boulevard. Leaves in the roadway can block storm drains. Leave out rocks, sticks, branches and other debris; a contaminated pile may be refused.
The district says a collection-progress map will be added to its page closer to December. It was not yet available when we checked.

Only a small pile? Use the green bin
Leaves are accepted in the biweekly organics collection. That gives you another option without waiting for the leaf truck.
Taking a load to Elgin Road
The drop-off depot is at 1771 Elgin Road. Its winter-hours notice takes effect November 1, 2026, through March 31, 2027:
- Monday to Friday
- 9am to 4:30pm
- Saturday
- 9am to 4pm
The notice replaces the earlier hours still printed farther down the district’s page. Check holiday closures before leaving.
The depot is for Oak Bay resident property owners, with a resident vehicle decal and identification. It is vehicle-access only. Decals are issued at the kiosk on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Leaves, grass and yard trimmings are accepted; trimmings must be no more than three inches across and three feet long. Invasive species are not accepted.
